Not too long ago, terms like “gluten-free,” “salt-free,” and GMO-free,” came to be associated with natural organic foods, but a majority of people neither understood what they meant nor their benefits.

Before I dive into what I do, I will help you understand what these terms mean and why all my recipes and products leave them out.

Salt-free

While salt, or sodium chloride, is an essential mineral that the body needs to function, excess salt consumption can lead to high blood pressure, hypertension, and even cardiovascular disease.

Avoiding salt can help you improve kidney health and maintain a healthy weight.

Gluten-free

An increasing number of people around the world have begun experiencing discomfort or Irritable Bowel Syndrome after eating products containing gluten. While gluten is a perfectly natural part of a healthy diet, the inability to properly digest the proteins in gluten leads to intestinal discomfort.

Avoiding glutens can help you steer clear of intestinal discomfort and feeling bloated.

GMO-free

Today, an increasing number of consumables, including favorites like soybeans, zucchini, and papaya are grown from seeds that can be defined as genetically modified organisms (GMO). While the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA),  the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the Department of Health Canada (Health Canada) claim that GMO crops are safe to consume, some theories suggest consuming GMO’s might lead to internal organ damage and slower brain development.

Until these theories are disproved and sufficient research is conducted, it’s best to stay GMO-free.
